Lord Dhanvantari

Maharishi Valmiki

Answer: Lord Dhanvantari

Dhanvantari is a Hindu god of medicine and Lord Vishnu’s avatar. He was Varanasi’s ruler. Worshipers in Hinduism frequently pray to Dhanvantari for good health for themselves and/or others, notably on Dhanteras or Dhanwantari Trayodashi (“National Ayurveda Day”).

Lord Dhanvantari is an excellent personality within the history of Ayurveda. In both the Vedas and the Puranas, he was the Gods’ physician and a brilliant surgeon. In Hinduism, followers pray to Dhanvantari for sound healing blessings. Divodasa was contacted by a group of sages (including Susruta, the good Indian physician) in his incarnation as king of Kashi, who asked him to explain them the science of Ayurveda.

Brahma penned the Ayurveda even before he created people, according to Dhanvantari, creating one of the upangas of the Atharvaveda in 100,000 verses divided into 1,000 chapters, which was difficult for men’s limited ability to comprehend in their short lives. As a result, Dhanvantari cooperated with the elders’ request, recasting Brahma’s Ayurveda into eight divisions (shalya, shalakya, kayachikitsa, bhutavidya, kaumarabhrtya, agadatantra, rasayanatantra, vajikaranatantra) and beginning teaching under the frameworks of pratyaksa (per (analogy). Dhanvantari was delegated by Lord Indra to require the science of Ayurveda to the mortals, according to some stories of Ayurveda’s origins.

It’s also worth noting that Dhanvantari is regarded as a Vishnu avatar in Hinduism. the foremost frequently told story about Dhanvantari is that when the ocean was churned by the gods and demons in search of the elixir of life, Dhanvantari emerged from it, clutching a bowl of nectar. “Physicians from the college of Atreya referred surgical patients to surgeons from the university of Dhanvantari, but there is no evidence that these surgeons referred medical cases to physicians from the university of Atreya.” C.S

“The word dhanus is barely indicative (upalakshna). It denotes the science of surgery. The one who has seen the top (anta) of it’s Dhanvantari. The word dhanvan means desert. Thus Dhanvantari, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, with a pot of nectar in his hand is like prapaa (oasis) within the desert of worldly existence.”

DHANVANTARI JAYANTI – BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

The birthday celebrations of Dhanvantari, the God of Health, take place on Dhanteras Day in an exuberant and cheerful atmosphere. Dhanvatari Jayanti is widely known throughout India by the practitioners of Ayurveda, the Indian traditional medicine. Some temples devoted to Lord Dhanvantari can be found in South India, primarily in Tamilnadu and Kerala. Dhanvantari Jayanthi is revered with great reverence in these temples. Ayurvedic practitioners worship the enormous statue of Lord Dhanvantari at the Ayurveda Maha Sammelan headquarters in Dhanwantari Bhavan in Delhi.
