Amarinder Singh on Sunday sent his best wishes to Charanjit Singh Channi, who will reportedly be succeeding him as the Chief Minister of Punjab.

“My best wishes to Charanjit Singh Channi. I hope he’s able to keep the border state of Punjab safe and protect our people from the growing security threat from across the border,” he said in a statement tweeted by media advisor Raveen Thukral.

“Sad at not being able to personally hand over job letters to kin of 150 farmers who had lost their lives in stir against #FarmLaws. Hope CM-designate Charanjit S Channi will do needful at earliest. I continue to stand with farmers in fight for justice,” stated another tweet by Thukral.

Amarinder Singh, who resigned as the chief minister of the state on Saturday following a power struggle with state party chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, has time-and-again emphasised the theme of national security in the context of the political crisis in Punjab.

Speaking about the possibility of Sidhu becoming the next CM, Singh had said on Saturday, “For the sake of my country, I’ll oppose his (Navjot Singh Sidhu) name for Chief Minister of Punjab. It’s a matter of national security. Pakistan PM Imran Khan is his friend. Sidhu has a relation with Army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa.”

Meanwhile, following his resignation, Amarinder Singh also said he felt “humiliated” and expressed his unhappiness with the party leadership’s decision.

“I spoke with the Congress president this morning, told them that I will be resigning today… This is the third time in recent months in meeting MLAs… which is why I decided to quit,” he said.

“…Did they have an element of doubt that I couldn’t run the govt…I feel humiliated…Whoever they have faith in, can make them (CM), he added.
