The lunar eclipse that will occur on 18-19 November is definitely not an event to miss as it will be the longest partial lunar eclipse in 580 years and will be visible from parts of Northeast India. 

The last time such lunar eclipse happened was on 18th February 1940 and will not happen again till the year 2669 AD. It is expected to be witnessed again on February 8, 2669.

Date and Time:

The partial eclipse will occur on November 19 at 12.49 pm and end at 4.17 pm. The maximum partial eclipse would occur at around 2.34 pm and 97% of the Moon will be covered by the Earth‘s shadow.

The lunar eclipse will be visible in India at 2.34 pm and will be visible from a few areas in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, Director of Research and Academic at MP MP Birla Planetarium Debiprosad Duari told PTI. A few areas in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh will witness the last fleeting moment of the partial lunar eclipse just after the moonrise, very close to the eastern horizon, he added.

The partial lunar eclipse will be fully visible from North America, South America, eastern Asia, Australia, and the Pacific region.

It is the longest partial lunar eclipse in 580 years with the duration of 3 hours 28 minutes and 24 seconds.

What is a Lunar Eclipse?

The phenomenon when Earth comes in between the Moon and Sun is called a lunar eclipse. A total lunar eclipse happens when the Moon and Sun are on opposite sides of Earth. In a partial lunar eclipse, only a part of Earth’s shadow covers the moon. Penumbral Lunar eclipse is when Moon travels through the faint penumbral portion of Earth’s Shadow.

What will happen on November 19 eclipse?

This will be a partial lunar eclipse as 97% of the moon will be covered by the Earth’s shadow. The moon will appear in blood-red color because when the red rays of sunlight will pass through the Earth’s atmosphere and get least deflected and fall on the moon it will appear red.
