Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon died on Tuesday. He was 85. His son, Ashutosh Tandon, made the announcement on Twitter. Tandon died at 5:35 am in Medanata Hospital, according to his son.

Lalji Tandon is survived by wife and three sons.

Tandon had been admitted to the Medanta Hospital in Lucknow on June 11 after complaining of fever. He was later diagnosed with liver and kidney infection.

His body will be kept at his official residence in Hazratganj and
later at his Sindhi Tola residence in Chowk to enable people to pay
their last respects.

The last journey will start at 4 in the
evening for the Gulala Ghat where his last rites will be performed later
in the day, Ashutosh Tandon said in a statement.

Prime minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to the leader and remember him for his ‘untiring efforts to serve society’. “Shri Lalji Tandon will be remembered for his untiring efforts to serve society. He played a key role in strengthening BJP in Uttar Pradesh. He made a mark as an effective administrator, always giving importance of public welfare. Anguished by his passing away,” Modi posted on Twitter.

Last month, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel took additional charge of Madhya Pradesh following the illness of Tandon.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BSP President Mayawati also expressed grief over Tandon’s death. The UP government has announced three days mourning as a mark of respect to Lalji Tandon, a former cabinet minister, a government spokesman said.
