Ganesha Chaturthi is celebrated on the Shukla Paksha chaturthi day in the month of Magha, as per the Hindu Calendar. It is observed to mark the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesha, the younger son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The festival is dominantly celebrated in the states of Goa and Maharashtra with full zeal and energy. On this day, devotees keep a one-day long fast and perform pooja.

Maghi Ganesha Chaturthi is being observed on February 15, 2021, and the auspicious time for puja will begin at 11.28 AM and will end at 1.43 PM, meaning it will remain for 2 hours 14 minutes.

There is a lot of significance of the festival, if the devotees keep a day-long fast on this day they get success in life. As Lord Ganesha is also known Vignaharta (remover of obstacles), the one who fasts on this day remains away from obstacles.

According to the Hindu mythology, the people who worship Lord Ganesha on the fourth day after the full moon achieve success in their life. Also, according to rituals, the devotees should offer red clothes, red sweets and red flowers to the idol of Lord Ganesha on this day.

It is also said that people should not look at the moon on this day as it is considered inauspicious as he cursed the Moon Lord because he made fun of Ganesha, and he said that if someone sees the moon on this day, he/she will undergo many sufferings.
