At least 164 people have died
in various rain-related incidents in rain-ravaged Maharashtra till Sunday. Eleven more bodies have been found recovered in Raigad district and two each in Wardha and Akola as rescue operations gather pace. A government statement said
that around 100 people are missing.
The statement said that 71 people have died in Raigad, 41 in Satara, 21 in Ratnagiri, 12 in Thane, seven in Kolhapur, four in Mumbai and two each in Sindhudurg, Pune, Wardha and Akola, reports PTI.
A total of 2,29,074 people
have been evacuated from flood-affected districts in the Konkan region and
western Maharashtra to safer places.
A statement from the state secretariat control room
said 28 more deaths were reported from the Satara district in western
Maharashtra and 8 from the Raigad district in the coastal region.
A total of 875 villages in Pune, Satara, Sangli and
Kurnool districts have been affected by the floods. Five relief camps have been
set up in Chiplun city in Ratnagiri district.

The Maharashtra government has allocated Rs 2 crore
in emergency funds to Raigad and Ratnagiri districts.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said
that the state will require “central assistance for long-term mitigation
measures”. Thackeray is scheduled to tour western Maharashtra on Monday.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar toured various rain-hit villages in Sangli district on Monday and used a rescue boat to reach out to flood victims in some areas.
Earlier this week, heavy rains triggered landslides
in several areas of Maharashtra. The deadliest one was reported from Taliya
village in Raigad district.
Maharashtra witnessed its heaviest spell of July rain in the last four decades.
Meawhile, the flood situation in Karnataka continues to remain grim. Ten people are said to have lost their lives in rain-related incidents. Two more are missing.
Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said on Sunday that he would write to the Centre to release funds for carrying out flood relief work.
Belagavi, Uttara Kannada, Dharwad and Haveri are the worst-hit among the 11 affected districts, officials said.
