Mamata Banerjee, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool leader, on Friday received another notice from the Election Commission, this time over her alleged statement on central security forces. She has been asked to reply by tomorrow. The earlier notice was over her alleged appeal to Muslim voters.

“Election Commission of India issues notice to Chief Minister and TMC leader Mamata Banerjee asking her to explain her stand by 10th April, regarding her statements against Central Forces on March 28 and April 7,” reports ANI

The remarks that EC was referring to were made during election rallies. “I know under whose instruction they (central forces) beat up and how they beat up. It is your duty to save the family of the people. If any of our mothers and sisters suffer a single strike with the stick attack them with a ladle, spuds and knife. I am telling you. It is the right of women. And if any of our mothers and sisters are denied entry in the voting compartment all of you come out and revolt,” Banerjee had said in Cooch Behar.

She had earlier received a notice over her appeal to Muslim voters ‘to not let their vote be split among different political parties’. The complaint referred to the following section of her speech.

“… I am requesting my minority brothers and sisters with folded hands… don’t divide the minority votes after listening to the devil… who had taken money from the BJP… He passes many communal statements and initiates clashes between Hindus and Muslims… comrades of the CPM and BIP are roaming around with money given by BJP to divide the minority votes”.

After this notice, Banerjee had pointed to some comments allegedly made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his poll campaign. “How many notices have been given to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for violating such codes everyday?” she asked.

“It hardly matters even if 10 show cause notices are issued against me. I am telling everyone to vote unitedly, there will be no division. How many complaints have been filed against Narendra Modi? He (Prime Minister) does Hindu-Muslim every day,” ANI quoted the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo saying at her rally in Damjur.
