Mumbai Indians, who are languishing at the bottom of the
points table, emerged as the most valuable team of IPL 2022 as the Indian T20
league has been rated as the most prominent T20 league in the world by Forbes. The
five-time champions Mumbai Indians’ market value now stand at $1.3 billion. MI are followed by defending champions Chennai Super
Kings
, who are valued at $1.15 billion.

Kolkata Knight Riders ($1.1 billion), IPL debutante Lucknow
Super Giants ($1.075 billion) and Delhi Capitals ($1.035 billion) are next on
the chart while Royal Challengers Bangalore ($1.025 billion), Rajasthan Royals
($1 billion), SunRisers Hyderabad ($970 million), Punjab Kings ($925 million)
and Gujarat Titans ( $850 million) completed the bottom half of the list.

According to Forbes, the renowned American business
magazine, the IPL has been investors’ favourite destination for investments in India.

In 2009, the second season of the franchise-based T20 league,
the magazine came up with valuations of each team for the first time, summing up the average value of
the eight franchises at $67 million.

The richest T20 league in the world, IPL, having
extended to 10 teams in 2022, that average franchise valuation is now up to
$1.04 billion, reported an annual growth rate of 24%, Forbes stated in its
report published on Tuesday.

“The IPL is the most prominent cricket league in the world in
terms of attracting sponsors and media rights. A lot of credit goes to founders
of the IPL, who took ideas from the NBA and European soccer leagues, and good
governance by the BCCI with regards to clear visibility of team funding and
ensuring the tournament continued during Covid,” Forbes quotes Ajimon Francis,
managing director at Brand Finance India, a brand valuation and strategy
consultancy.

Mumbai Indians, the most successful team of the league, have
been going through a torrid time, having been eliminated from the IPL 2022
after eight consecutive losses.
