Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who already owns the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has bought the Los Angeles franchise and has named it as LA Knight Riders, reports Mumbai Mirror.
The team will compete in a six-team T20 tournament in America on the lines of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The 55-year-old has acquired the franchise in the soon-to-be-launched Major Cricket League that is scheduled to take place in the US. It will have six teams based in New York, San Francisco, Washington DC, Chicago, Dallas, and Los Angeles.
“The tournament is scheduled to start in the summer of 2022, immediately after the IPL that year,” said a source.
According to the publication, Shah Rukh’s firm is a part-owner of the American T20 league’s organising company, the American Cricket Enterprise.
The company has obtained the rights to conduct the tournament from USA Cricket, an affiliate of the International Cricket Council
King Khan also owns a T20 team named Trinbago Knight Riders that play in the Caribbean Premier League.
