Rahul Gandhi and Sachin Pilot had an “open and conclusive” discussion, said Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal today, soon after the reports of the truce between the rebel camp and the party were out.

In a meeting in Delhi this evening, “Sachin Pilot met with
ex-Congress President Rahul Gandhi and expressed his grievances in detail. They
had a frank, open and conclusive discussion,” he said, adding that Pilot was “committed to working in interest of Congress party and
Congress government in Rajasthan.”

He said that “following
this meeting, Congress President Sonia Gandhi has decided that the AICC will
constitute a three-member committee to address the issues raised by Sachin
Pilot and the aggrieved MLAs and arrive at an appropriate resolution thereof.”

The top leadership, however, has not agreed to the Pilot’s demand of removing CM Gehlot, as per sources.

Sachin Pilot, who was
Rajasthan’s deputy Chief Minister, had last month rebelled against his boss,
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. An extended sulk resulted in him losing his job in
the state government and as the party’s Rajasthan chief.

The two sides were looking
for a ‘breakthrough’ after weeks of accusations and counter-accusations between
Team Pilot and the loyalists of Chief Minister Gehlot.

With the homecoming of Pilot, the crisis in the Rajasthan Congress has been averted for now and the Gehlot government is expected to sail through the trust vote on the floor of the house when the state assembly meets on August 14.
