Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi are expected to speak in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. While Modi will reply to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address, Gandhi will lead the Opposition’s charge against the government over the farm laws. The Lok Sabha proceedings on the ninth day of the Budget session will begin at 4 pm.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a three-line whip to its members in the Lok Sabha to be present in the House on Wednesday, ANI reported.  

The Lok Sabha proceedings from the previous day went on till 1 am on Wednesday as MPs participated in a debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address.

Since the beginning of this year’s Budget Session, Opposition has continuously protested the Centre’s three farm laws in both the Houses of Parliament. The farm bills were passed during the Monsoon session last year. 

According to media reports, Gandhi will be the first speaker after Modi to lead the Opposition’s charge against the government over the farm laws, which became the prominent reason for the sit-in demonstration by thousands of farmers, mainly from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, at the key border points in New Delhi.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget for FY 2021-22 on February 1. The session will end on April 8 and will be held in two parts. The first part started on January 29 and will conclude on February 13 while the second part will continue from March 8 to April 8.
