Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security breach in Punjab will be reviewed by an independent committee, the Supreme Court agreed on Monday afternoon. This panel will be headed by a former Supreme Court judge.
According to news agency ANI, the Supreme Court had further suggested the involvement of Registrar General of Punjab and Haryana High Court, DGP Chandigarh, IG National Investigation Agency and ADGP (security) of Punjab in the committee that will be set up to probe the incident.

Centre and Punjab authorities were further urged to not proceed with their own investigations into the matter, ANI reported.
The Supreme Court on Friday had directed the Registrar General of the Punjab and Haryana High Court to “secure and preserve” the records pertaining to arrangements made for the prime minister’s visit to Punjab when there was a “massive security breach”.
The incident has sparked a back and forth of rhetorics. While multiple people associated with the BJP say that the incident endangered the life of Prime Minister Modi, Punjab’s Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi— a member of the INC– sought to address the incident using a remark of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
“One who cares for his life more than duty, he should not take big responsibilities in a country like India,” wrote on Twitter to quote Sardar Patel.
Channi on Thursday had alleged that Narendra Modi’s “gimmick” of “threat to his life” was aimed at “toppling a democratically elected government” in the state, according to PTI reports.

Prime Minister Modi’s convoy had to be halted earlier this week during his recent Ferozepur visit and could not move for about 20 minutes on a flyover in Bathinda. Media reports suggest the road was blocked by protesting farmers.
The PM was scheduled to lay foundation stones of development projects worth over Rs 42,750 crore, including the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra expressway and a PGIMER satellite centre.
