India’s former President Pranab Mukherjee passed away on Monday at Army’s Research and Referral Hospital in Delhi, where he was admitted for the past several days. 

His last rites will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 pm, PTI reported. His mortal remains were laid at his residence at 10 Rajaji Marg in New Delhi. Several politicians and high profile dignitaries paid their respect to the former president.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the former president’s residence to pay his last respect. President Ram Nath Kovind too visited Mukherjee’s residence to pay his last respect.  

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and former PM Manmohan Singh visited Mukherjee’s residence at 10 Rajaji Marg, New Delhi.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, BJP President J P Nadda and Congress’ Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Ghulam Nabi Azad and BJP’s Jyotiraditya Scindia paid their respect to Pranab Mukherjee at his residence.

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat, Army Chief General MM Naravane, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria and Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh paid their respects to the former president at his residence, ANI reported.

His mortal remains were taken from his residence to Lodhi Crematorium at around 1:00 pm. 

The former president was admitted to Army’s Research and Referral Hospital, where he underwent surgery to remove a brain clot on August 10. He had also tested positive for COVID-19.

He passed away on Monday at the hospital. The government has announced seven days of national mourning throughout India from August 31 to September 6.
