The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday confirmed Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav have been called up to the Indian squad for the upcoming Test series against England. The cricket board also said Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar and Avesh Khan have been ruled out for the series due to injuries.
In a statement, the BCCI said young opening batsman Gill had “sustained a developing stress reaction on his lower left leg (shin) during the World Test Championship final,” which was confirmed via an MRI scan. “He is ruled out of the tour and has returned back to India,” the BCCI said.
Spin all-Sundar had taken an injection in the bowling finger of his right hand and that his recovery will take longer than expected. He is not “bowling-fit” and has been ruled out for the series.
Fast bowler Khan has fractured his left thumb after suffering a blow on Day 1 of the warm-up match, which has ruled him out of the series.
Meanwhile, wicket-keeping batsman Rishabh Pant has recovered from COVID-19 and is currently preparing for the upcoming series after receiving an all-clear from the BCCI medical team.
Also, Wriddhiman Saha, Abhimanyu Eswaran and bowling coach B Arun have completed their isolation period and have joined the team in Durham.
