Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh is holding a meeting with his loyal MLAs ahead of the Congress legislature party (CLP) meeting, reports ANI. The ‘Captain’ has faced a renewed revolt by state party leaders, months before the Punjab polls. 

The likes of Rahul Gandhi, Congress observer for Punjab Ajay Maken, Navjot Singh Sindhu, Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Charanjit S Channi, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Assembly Speaker Rana KP Singh will attend the CLP meet at the Chandigarh party office. The meeting is scheduled to start at 5 PM.

Amarinder Singh is facing a revolt by several senior Punjab Congress for the third time. Last month, four ministers and around two dozen party legislators had raised a banner against Singh saying they had no faith in his ability to honour unfulfilled promises.

Over 50 Congress legislators from Punjab have written to party president Sonia Gandhi seeking that Amarinder Singh be replaced as chief minister, party sources said on Saturday ahead of a crucial meeting of the Congress Legislative Party in Chandigarh, as per PTI.

“This kind of humiliation is enough, this is happening for the third time. I can’t continue to stay in the party with this kind of humiliation,” Amarinder Singh wrote to party chief Sonia Gandhi, as per NDTV reports. 

In a tweet on Friday, AICC general secretary and in-charge of Punjab affairs Harish Rawat announced the CLP meeting,

The Punjab Assembly has 117 seats and the Congress has 80 legislators in the House.
