A TV anchor, soon after India captain Rohit Sharma confirmed that KL Rahul will open with him in the World Cup, confused the Bangalore-based batter with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. He was trolled on social media for the blunder.
Rohit, talking in a press conference ahead of the India vs Australia T20I series, said that KL Rahul will open the batting alongside him at the T20 World Cup. The tournament will take place in Australia in October-November.

With Virat Kohli’s brilliant show as an opener during the Asia Cup, many speculated that the former India captain, who generally bats at No 3, will be promoted up the order. However, Rohit Sharma said that Rahul is still their first option.

Social media users trolled the anchor for the mix-up.
“Bhai KL Rahul Se Run Nhi Ban Rahe to ab opening Rahul Gandhi hi karegen..” one Twitter user said.

“Seeing KL Rahul recent form, trying Rahul Gandhi as an opener isn’t a bad option afterall 😆😆. And if Rahul Gandhi fails, atleast everybody can blame him,” another one added.
Kohli was promoted to the opening slot in India’s final Asia Cup 2022 game against Afghanistan. He slammed an unbeaten 122 off 61 balls.
