Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Twitter account was temporarily suspended, the Congress party claimed on Saturday. The microblogging platform however denied the claim after which the Congress said that Rahul Gandhi’s profile was “locked”.
The ‘suspension’ or ‘locking’ of the account comes three days after Gandhi tweeted a picture of him meeting
the family of a Dalit girl who died after following an alleged sexual assault.
A message from Twitter read that the tweet has violated its rules.

rules. The Congress party said that they are pursuing due process to get the

supporters on other social media platforms and “continue to raise his voice for
our people & fight for their cause. Jai Hind!”
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi posted a tweet with pictures of
him meeting the family members of the Dalit girl. Gandhi’s tweeted in Hindi: “The tears of her mother and father say just one thing – their daughter, the country’s daughter, deserves justice. And I am with them in this path to justice.” Gandhi tweeted in Hindi.”
Twitter had later taken down the post. Following Gandhi’s
Twitter post, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) asked
the Delhi Police and Twitter to take action against Gandhi for posting pictures
of the girl’s family on the microblogging website.
According to NCPCR, Gandhi’s tweet violated the Juvenile
Justice Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO Act). `
A nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped and killed by a priest and three employees at a crematorium near Delhi Cantonment on August 1.
The four accused, known to the girl’s mother, called her and showed her the girl’s body, claiming that the child was electrocuted while getting water and cremated the body of the child, allegedly without her parents’ consent or the police being informed.

Radhey Shyam (55), a priest at the cremation ground, and three other employees – Kuldeep Kumar (63), Laxmi Narain (48) and Mohd Salim (49), were arrested on Monday.
The victim’s mother alleges that the accused men didn’t take her permission before lighting the pyre. “I was screaming and a few villagers saw and came to help me. We doused the fire but could only recover my daughter’s legs,” she said, adding that her daughter was sexually assaulted.
The Congress has been organising protests seeking justice for the family and
has criticised the Delhi Police and the Aam Admi Party for “being careless
regarding the protection of women in Delhi”.
