“I laugh all the time and I get along with people really
well,” said Rannvijay Singha showing up his not so pumped up biceps during his first-ever TV appearance as one of the contestants of the first
season of Youth driven show “Roadies” in 2003. Fast forward to 2020 and you
will see the svelte man setting fashion trends with his effortless yet edgy style
in all his TV appearances whether it is ‘Roadies’, Splitsvilla’, or in soon to
be seen web show ‘Mismatched’, the trailer of which has been released.
The 37-year-old, father of one, has never tried too hard to
look fashionable. In fact, for him, whatever he chose to wear eventually became trends- be it sneakers with suits or donning a blazer with shorts.
“I have been wearing sneakers since 1992 and I got into it
because I was into basketball and Michael Jordon was still playing that time
when I was 7 or 8 years old. The only thing that grows up with that game is
sneakers. When I got my first pay
from MTV back in 2003, which was Rs. 40,000, I bought two Vince Carter
shoes-One for my brother and one for myself which was Rs.10,000 each so 50
percent of my first salary went into sneakers,” he told Opoyi in a telephonic
conversation from London.
“I am that guy who used to wear sneakers with suits way
before it even became a trend. In Splitsvilla season 1 which was in 2006, I wore a
suit with shorts way before it even became a trend and that’s not because ‘oh I
can read trends way before it happens or I am talking with somebody in Paris or
Milan’, these are the things that happened because I felt like doing it.
Eventually, it became a trend for whatever reason but I am not a person who
follows trends,” he added.
Rannvijay says that he never try too hard when it comes to fashion.
“It is effortless because I just wear what I am comfortable
in. I also feel that it’s not about the fashion trend that’s going on but if
you have the confidence to carry a certain
thing, that will look fashionable on you. Today, there is no set fashion trend so
it depends on a person’s personality and how comfortable he looks wearing those
clothes,” he said.
The actor, who has been part of the “Roadies” from 2004 till
now, earlier as a gang leader and now as a host, feels inspired that he has got
a great youth connect.
“It does inspire me,” said the actor.
Talking about the changed viewpoint of youth with regards to
career, he said, “In the last four-five years, it has become a little better
and clearer for people to understand what they want. The new generation does
not run just after money. I think you have to understand that even if you
are very famous as an actor, working on your real-life goals with that success
matters too,” he said.
Giving an example, he said that even if someone has
done several films but if you do not have any passion or goals in real life
then that is not the life people aspire to live.
“When I go for an adventure, spend time with family, when I
go for bike rides, do different things, that is a balance of life I want and
pursue. I don’t want that at 60 when I have everything to afford but I don’t
have age to spend that so I want to do things now when I am physically capable
of doing it,” said Rannvijay who has also done films like’ London Dreams’ (2009)
and ‘Action Replayy’ (2010).
The actor has not restricted himself just to movies and
shows, he has also entered into lifestyle space with his grooming range
Whiskers that has been founded with a vision to change the game for men’s
untended requirements in the personal hygiene domain
“I have seen that men take pride when they say that I get
ready in two minutes but that means you are not taking care of yourself. You
get to groom for your family and yourself so this brand is a step to make it
effortless for you without compromising on your grooming. In the last five
years, the trend of beard has emerged and this brand has products that cater to
that grooming part,” he said.
“I think we are at the right place,” he added.
Talking about one grooming mistake that people often make,
he says that it’s more to do with trying too hard.
“I think it should look effortless especially with boys for
instance sometimes boys do too much with eyebrows and that is not good. Even
for girls, their makeup goals should be to look natural as much as possible,” he signs off by adding that “people should not do too much because it looks off.”
