Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja recently
discussed his persistent shot selection issue from the past, recalling how former India
captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni advised him to make tweaks in his batting during the
2015 World Cup.

Jadeja, who over the years has transformed into a reliable lower-middle
order batting option for India, features regularly in all formats of the game,
adapting to the pace of a particular match as and when necessary.

“I remember he said that I was
trying to hit shots against balls I shouldn’t be attempting. Shot selection was
something I also felt I was doing wrong. My judgement at the start wasn’t
right. I would be in double mind. ‘Should I go for the shot, or no?’”, Jadeja
was quoted as saying in the subject in an interview with The Indian Express.

“These days, I like to take my
time and I am clearer in my mind. I know I can always cover up the runs later.
That change in thinking has helped”, he is further quoted as saying.

The all-rounder also noted during
the interview that he did not find it difficult playing short deliveries, saying
he does not “remember getting out too many times to it” or thinking he
will not be able to play it.

Jadeja has high possibilities of featuring in India’s World Test Championship squad, with the event set to get underway on June 18.

After the tournament, team India will be continuing their stay in England before commencing their Test series against the home team in August.
