According to an NDTV report, sources said that Shrikant Tyagi was planning to flee to Saharanpur via Dehradun, Haridwar and Rishikesh. He was arrested from an aide’s home on the outskirts of Meerut.

The arrest comes just a day after Tyagi’s lawyer submitted a urrender application t o a Greater Noida court. The UP police had earlier announced a reward of Rs 25000 for tips about Tyagi’s whereabouts. According to an NDTV report, Tyagi had planned to go to Saharanpur via Dehradun, Haridwar and Rishikesh.

According to his Twitter, Tyagi is a “National Executive Member” of the BJP but the saffron party has distanced themselves from him with the party’s Noida chief Manoj Gupta saying that he was not a member of the party. 

While investigating his ties to the BJP, the UP police found that Tyagi has several cases against him including extortion as well as one where he had been booked under the Goonda Act. He also has cases against him for culpable homicide, rioting, breaching the peace, and forgery and fraud.

In the video Tyagi was recorded abusing and assaulting the woman after she refused to let him plant trees on the outside walkway in the Grand Omaxe housing complex in Noida’s Sector 93B. According to the lady in the video, planting trees was a violation of the rules with Tyagi insisting that he owned that tract of land. 

Following the incident the UP police arrived to arrest him but Tyagi threatened to release his dogs before escaping. That same night, followers of Tyagi entered the housing complex and went looking for the woman in the video before police were called and they were arrested. On Monday, illegal temporary structures that Tyagi had built in Grand Omaxe were torn down under orders of the government.
