In the afternoon session, Indian equities benchmarks continued to trade poorly, amid the bearish indications from other Asian markets. The Hang Seng fell 342.69 points, or 1.34%, to 25,307.39, the Nikkei 225 fell 89.67 points, or 0.3%, to 29,598.66, the Jakarta Composite fell 41.95 points, or 0.63%, to 6,633.85, the Shanghai Composite fell 10.63 points, or 0.32%, to 3,526.74, and the KOSPI fell 9.38 points, or 0.32%, to 2,953.04. On the other hand, Straits Times rose 3.25 points, or 0.1%, to 3,235.93, while Taiwan Weighted up 77.33 points, or 0.44%, to 17,841.37.

The BSE Sensex is presently trading at 59438.16, down 570.17 points or 0.95% from a high of 60177.52 and a low of 59423.45. On the index, there were four stocks that advanced and 26 stocks that declined.

The broader indexes were trading in the negative, with the BSE Midcap index down 1.80% and the Small-cap index down 1.65%.

The top losing sectoral indices on the BSE were Auto, which was down 2.71%, Metal, which was down 2.30%, Industrials, which was down 1.99%, Capital Goods, which was down 1.96%, and Utilities, which was down 1.95%, while there were no gaining sectoral indices on the BSE.

The only gainers on the Sensex were Power Grid, which was up 0.52%, Asian Paints, which was up 0.41%, HDFC Bank, which was up 0.25%, and SBI, which was up 0.05%. On the other hand, the biggest losers were Mahindra & Mahindra, which fell 2.85%, Maruti Suzuki, which fell 2.72%, HCL Tech, which fell 2.70%, Larsen & Toubro, which fell 2.49%, and Indusind Bank, which fell 2.45%.

The CNX Nifty is presently trading at 17700.75, down 197.90 points or 1.11% from a high of 17945.60 and a low of 17700.50. On the index, there were 5 stocks that advanced and 45 stocks that declined.

The biggest gainers on the Nifty were SBI Life Insurance, which increased by 0.65%, Power Grid, which increased by 0.52%, Asian Paints, which increased by 0.37%, HDFC Bank, which increased by 0.14%, and Indian Oil Corporation, which increased by 0.08%. The biggest losers were Tata Motors, which was down 4.60%, Eicher Motors, which was down 3.16%, Maruti Suzuki, which was down 2.94%, Mahindra & Mahindra, which was down 2.90%, and Tech Mahindra, which was down 2.82%.
