On Tuesday, Nifty opened flat amid mixed global cues. The initial hour of the session was terrific as Nifty gained about 250 points but then, it was struggling to hold on to its gains. Nifty IT, Nifty FMCG, Nifty Pharma & Nifty Realty ended marginally up while the banking and metal indices faced the heat. The top losers for Tuesday’s session include Tata Steel and Kotak Mahindra Bank while the top gainers were Power Grid Corp & Titan Company.

BSE Sensex fell 195.71 points or 0.34% to 57,064.87 and the Nifty was down by 70.75 points or 0.41% to 16,983.20 in the previous session. Sensex touched high and low of 58,183.77 and 56,867.51, respectively and there were 13 stocks advancing against 17 stocks declining on the index. Nifty traded in a range of 17,324.65 and 16,931.40 and there were 22 stocks advancing against 28 stocks declining on the index.

Given the fact that the market fell towards the end, there are stocks that showed the opposite reactions. Recovery from the lower levels indicates that the market participants actively participated in these stocks at the lower levels. Max Health, PNB Housing, SupremeIND, TCIEXP are the stocks that recovered from their lows.

148 scrips traded at their respective 52-week highs while 20 were at their 52-week lows. Meanwhile, on NSE, 48 stocks were seen trading at their 52-week highs while 25 were down near their lows.

Among BSE 500 constituents only two stocks were near their 52-week highs. These included Raymond and Sheela Foam Ltd. Other stocks to have hit 52-week highs were Jindal Worldwide, Macrotech Developers, NIIT Ltd, Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra), GRM Overseas, Aurionpro Solutions, and Sonal Mercantile. On the other hand, Creditaccess Grameen, India Pesticides, Sigachi Industries, Valiant Organics, VST industries were some of the stocks to hit fresh lows.

On the National Stock Exchange, Macrotech Developers, Jindal Worldwide Limited, Lyka Labs, Raymond Limited, Pansari Developers Limited, Shah Alloy Limited, SPML Infra Limited, and TD Power Systems Limited were among the stocks to trade at 52-week high values. On the downside, Gulf Oil Lubricants, IOL Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals, India Pesticides, Muthoot Capital Services, Sapphire Foods India Limited, Sigachi Industries, and VST Industries were among the top laggards.

In terms of volume, SPML Infra Limited saw 11.6 lakh shares move between investors on NSE on Tuesday, 47 times more than the 1-week average. Shriram City Union Finance was another volume shocker with 2.91 lakh shares exchanging hands today on NSE. This was 14.44 times more than the 1-week average. Other volume shockers include Ratnami Metal & Tubes, and Geekay Wires.
