Supreme Court on Tuesday heard a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed in the Hathras case. The apex court has sought suggestions from all the parties involved, on the scope of proceedings before Allahabad High Court and has asked what it can do to expand it, PTI reported.

The High Court on Friday took suo motu cognisance of the Hathras case in which a 19-year old Dalit woman was allegedly gang-raped on September 14. The woman died at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital on September 29.

The HC appeared especially upset about the alleged “forced” cremation of the woman in the wee hours on September 30. The court has asked the Uttar Pradesh Additional Chief Secretary, DGP and ADGP to appear before it on October 12.

It has also ordered the Hathras District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police to appear before it.

The victim’s parents have also been told to appear before the court and the district administration has been directed to arrange for their travel.
