Due to digitisation, an array of services, from banking to food delivery, are just one click away. However, like every coin has two sides, digitisation has also given birth to cybercrime, which is being conducted at a huge rate. This results in loss of money, identity theft among other things. The State Bank Of India, in a bid to educate its customers about cybercrimes, tweeted, “Free Gifts from National Bank of India?”

“Are you receiving these links in your inbox? Steer Clear! Clicking on these phishing links could lead to the loss of your personal and confidential information. Stay alert. Think before you click!”

The bank warned its users about malicious links and how clicking on any of these links can lead to the loss of financial data. Furthermore, SBI also warned its users to steer clear of downloading applications on cell phones or computers that could potentially lead to phishing attacks.

The key is to check the authenticity of those apps and go through user comments and reviews before downloading the same.

It later touched upon the issue of KYC frauds and warned its users of its rampant spread in India, asking its customers to not click on any link that requires one to update their KYC in the tweet.

In another tweet, the bank officially confirmed that it doesn’t ask its customers to update their KYC and shared a link to report any such incident.

The tweet read, “Always remember that your personal information needs to be kept private. Pay attention to these important safety tips to avoid cybercrime.”

Emphasising that sharing is not caring, SBI in the end asked its customers not to share their personal data and mobile number to keep from falling prey to cyber crimes.
