Following her semifinal exit at the mixed doubles event at the Wimbledon Championships 2022 on Wednesday, Indian tennis star Sania Mirza took to Instagram to bid a passionate farewell.
“Sport takes so much out of you ..,” she wrote before adding, “Mentally , physically, emotionally..”

The six-time Grand Slam winner has previously clinched the women’s doubles trophy at Wimbledon, winning the tournament in 2015 after partnering with Martina Hingis. The pair defeated Russian duo Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina in 2015.
The semifinal exit in the ongoing edition is also her best result at the mixed doubles event till now. She has prior experience of reaching the quarterfinals in 2011, 2013 and 2015 editions at Wimbledon.
“The wins and the losses ..hours of hard work and sleepless nights after tough losses ???? But it gives you soooo much in return that not many other ‘jobs’ can give you and for which i am forever grateful for ????” the 35-year-old added.
“The tears and the joy ,the fight and the struggle.. the work we put in is all worth it in the end ..it wasn’t meant to be this time @wimbledon but you have been nothing but spectacular ???? it has been an honor to play here and win here over the last 20 years ..i will miss you ????” she quipped.

Sixth-seeded Sania Mirza and her Croatian partner, Mate Pavic, lost 6-4, 5-7, 4-6 against Neal Skupski of Great Britain and Desirae Krawczyk in a two hours and 16 minutes-long match on July 6.
The Indian iconic tennis player had been knocked out of the women’s doubles event earlier. Mirza and her partner Lucie Hradecka were defeated by Magdalena Frech of Poland and Beatriz Maia of Brazil in the first round.
The mixed doubles loss was Mirza’s final match at Wimbledon, as she plans to retire from the sport at the end of the 2022 season.
