Royal Challengers Bangalore began IPL 2021 with a nail-biting last-ball victory against the defending champions Mumbai Indians in Chennai on Friday. The winning skipper Virat Kohli was over the moon after the win, but while catching the ball during the match, he suffered a scary eye injury.
The incident happened in the 19th over of the first innings when Krunal Pandya hit Kyle Jamieson’s delivery to mid-off where the RCB captain was fielding. Krunal hit the ball so hard that it went to Kohli in no time, while he missed the catch, the ball hit under his eyes.
Here’s the video of the RCB captain when the ball hit him during the match:
Just after the ball hit him, he went outside the field to get himself checked but came back in few minutes and carried on fielding with the same zest. Kohli scored 33 runs in 29 balls, and propelled RCB to win the game. Along with the captain, AB de Villers and Glenn Maxwell’s knock too secured RCB its first win in IPL 2021 on Friday.
Even though the injury looked severe and was visible on the captain’s face, he still made it to the presentations following the victory. He praised the collective efforts of the team, including Harshal Patel, who made a history in the IPL by scoring a 5-wicket haul against Mumbai Indians.
