The 35-year-old English footballer Wayne Rooney has spoken
on the chaos surrounding Derby County Football Club. The club based in Derbyshire,
England competes in the second tier of English football. It is one of the
twelve founding members of the Football League.

The club were hit with a twelve-point deduction with
immediate effect due to them entering administration. It has been revealed that
the side is in a debt of tens of millions. The team now sits at the bottom of
the table with negative two points on the table. It would be a monumental task
for the club managed by Wayne Rooney to avoid relegation.
The English man enjoyed a stellar career as a striker and
represented Everton, Manchester United and England in his playing days. He established
himself as a Manchester United legend by registering 208 goals and 103 assists
in 491 appearances for the reds.

Shortly after retiring as a footballer, Rooney took the
job of managing Derby County temporarily, after the exit of Phillip Cocu in
November 2020. He was offered the job on a permanent basis after a two-month
period.
Rooney has vowed to stay with the in this difficult situation. While
speaking at a press conference he said, “I
will fight for the club. I wouldn’t leave the staff in the lurch. They need
someone to lead them,”

He criticised
the club owner Mel Morris’s handling of the situation and revealed he hadn’t
spoken to Morris since August 9 and got to know of the club’s plan of going
into administration while watching news on television.
On top of administrative
troubles, the club have been in poor form. Out of their eight matches they
managed to win two, draw four and lost two. In order to continue in the second division,
they will have to improve heavily. It remains to be seen whether Rooney can
inspire the club to a strong finish with all the noise in the background.
