Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Saturday met a group of party workers, the first time since the outbreak of coronavirus, and said the leaders should work to strengthen the party.

Gandhi said we all are one big family and should work to strengthen the party, said Pawan Bansal after meeting the Congress President. The meeting took place months after a group of party leaders wrote to Gandhi seeking a complete overhaul of the organisation. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also attended the meeting.

The meeting, which also included some of Sonia Gandhi’s close associates, is the first effort by the Congress leaders for a rapprochement with the workers who raised questions over the party leadership.

The letter-writers, who attended the meeting, are Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, deputy leader of the party in the upper House Anand Sharma, former chief ministers Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Prithviraj Chavan, and MPs Manish Tewari, Vivek Tankha and Shashi Tharoor.

According to PTI sources, former Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath and senior leader P Chidambaram also attended the meeting.

Sonia Gandhi will be meeting a host of other leaders in the coming days, the sources said.
