Aditi Ashok
registered the best finish by an Indian golfer at the Olympics, missing out on
a historic medal by a whisker as she finished fourth in the women’s individual
event at the ongoing Tokyo Games on Saturday.
The 23-year-old
from Bengaluru carded a 3-under 68 in the final round, firing five birdies – on
the 5th, 6th, 8th, 13th and 14th holes – and two bogeys in the 9th
and 11th as she ended two strokes off the mark with a total of
15-under 269.

Soon after the result was confirmed, users flocked to social media to congratulate Ashok on her monumental achievement.
President was among the first to congratulate Ashok, saying, “Well played, Aditi Ashok! One more daughter of India makes her mark!”
“You have taken Indian golfing to new heights by today’s historic performance. You have played with immense calm and poise. Congratulations for the impressive display of grit and skills.”

Overnight leader and world number one American golfer Nelly Korda won gold in the event, with Japan’s Mone Inami and New Zealand’s Lydia Ko rounding off the podium places. Korda carded a 2-under 69 that left her 17-under overall, ahead of Inami and Ko with 65.
The Japanese won the silver medal play-off against Ko.
