The Durgapur Purba assembly constituency is currently held
by CPM leader Santosh Debray who defeated Pradip Mazumdar of the Trinamool
Congress in 2016. The seat is one of West Bengal‘s 294 assembly constituencies.
It comes under the Bardhaman-Durgapur Lok Sabha constituency.

Since 1972, Durgapur has been divided into two assembly
seats – Durgapur Purba and Durgapur Paschim. Both these constituencies were
earlier part of the Durgapur Lok Sabha seat, but were later made a part of
Bardhaman-Durgapur Lok Sabha constituency.
