The assembly constituency
was won by Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Satyajit Biswas who defeated Mrinal
Biswas (Mini) of Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) in 2016. However, in
the 2019 by-election, Bhartiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Ashis Kumar Biswas won from
the seat. The seat, one of West Bengal’s 294
assembly constituencies, falls under the Ranaghat
Lok Sabha constituency.

The Ranaghat
Lok Sabha constituency is currently held by Jagannath Sarkar of
Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), who defeated Rupali
Biswas of TMC.

The Krishnaganj assembly constituency is reserved for
the Scheduled Caste (SC). It was a CPM stronghold till 2011. From 2011 to 2019,
the seat was held by the TMC. In the 2019 by-election, the seat was won by the
BJP and its Ashis Kumar Biswas is the sitting MLA.
