Kudankulam%20Nuclear%20Power%20Plant%20%28KKNPP%29%2C%20which%20is%20located%20in%20the%20Tirunelveli%20district%20of%20Tamil%20Nadu%2C%20came%20into%20existence%20in%20the%20year%201899%20as%20the%20part%20of%20Indo-Russia%20agreement.%20It%20is%20India%u2019s%20biggest%20Nuclear%20Power%20Plant.%26nbsp%3B

Initially%2C%20the%20project%20was%20shut%20down%20due%20to%20the%20opposition%20from%20the%20Soviet%20Union%2C%20but%20in%20the%20year%201977%20when%20the%20new%20inter-governmental%20agreement%20was%20signed%20between%20India%20and%20Russia%2C%20the%20project%20was%20again%20up%20and%20running.

During%20the%20agreement%2C%20it%20was%20discussed%20that%20Kudankulam%20Nuclear%20Power%20Plant%20will%20schedule%20to%20have%20six%20VVER%201000%20reactors%20built%20with%20collaborating%20with%20a%20Russian-based%20company%20named%20Atomstroyexport%20and%26nbsp%3BNuclear%20Power%20Corporation%20of%20India%20Limited%20%28NPCIL%29.%20The%20installed%20capacity%20is%206000%20MW%20of%20electricity.

The%20construction%20of%20the%20nuclear%20power%20plant%20for%20the%20first%20two%20reactor%20units%20began%20in%20the%20year%202002%20with%20a%20lot%20of%20opposition%20from%20the%20local%20fishermen.%20The%20scheduled%20time%20of%20the%20commission%20of%20the%20project%20was%20in%20the%20year%202009%20but%20delayed%20due%20to%20protest%20and%20other%20safety%20concerns.

The%20current%20installed%20capacity%20of%20the%20Kudankulam%20Nuclear%20Power%20Plant%20is%202GW%20which%20is%20operated%20by%20the%20state-run%20nuclear%20power%20cooperation%20of%20India%20%28NPCIL%29.
