Aiden Markram is one of the 15 players in the South African squad for the upcoming  T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in Australia from October 16 to November 13, 2022. The South Africans are in search of a maiden World Cup triumph across formats. The current team, led by Temba Bavuma is in dire need of finding its form as they lost the recent T20 series to India 2-1.

 Who is Aiden Markram?

Aiden Kyle Markram is an international cricketer who represents South Africa across all three formats. He was born on October 4 1994 at Centurion, South Africa. He is a right-handed batsman born to Kyle Markram and Gina Markram. Markram captained the South African side to victory in the 2014 under-19 cricket World Cup held at United Arab Emirates. Ever since then, he has been considered by many experts as a potential contender for stewarding the national team.

With great balance and focus, and a crafty-yet-airtight technique which he can adjust with the demands of the situation, Markram has a cool head on his shoulders and the confidence to go with it. Primarily an off-side player with a neat opener’s technique, he brings a wider array of shots to a generally conservative South African top-order. An apprentice of Mark Boucher, Markram slowly started to redeem himself at the first-class level and raised him game to the next level, averaging over 50 in the 2017 season. After a streak of consistent performances, a quality that had eluded him in the past, Markram, at long last, made it to the Test fold when he was called up for the England tour in September 2017.

Markram made his Test debut for South Africa in 2017 against Bangladesh. After narrowly missing a century in that match, he scored centuries in the next two matches, thus becoming the first South African player to score 2 centuries in his first 3 Test matches. After captain Faf Du Plesis was ruled out of the last 5 ODIs in the series against India, Makram filled in his captain’s shoes, becoming a captain of the national team at the young age of 23 years and 123 days. Thus, he became the second youngest captain for South Africa in history after Graeme Smith. In 96 International matches that he has played thus far (32 test, 41 ODIS and 23 T20s), Makram has amassed a total of 2,711 runs with 5 international hundreds (all in Tests).
