Chaudhary Ajit Singh, the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief, a six-time MP and minister, died of COVID-19 on Thursday. He was 82. The news of the leader’s death was shared by his son, Jayanat Chaudhary.

Just like his father, Jayant Chaudhary is also a politician.

The vice-president of RLD, Jayant Chaudhary was first elected to the Parliament in 2009 from Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura. He again contested from the seat in 2014, but lost to actor-politician Hema Malini of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Just like his grandfather, the late Chaudhary Charan Singh, who was a former PM, and his father, Jayant is active in peasant politics. He held several Kisan Mahapanchayats during the farmers’ agitation against the Centre’s three farm laws. 

Regarding education, he is an alumnus of London School of Economics.
