Priyanka Tibrewal, who is going
to be BJP’s candidate against West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool
supremo Mamata Banerjee in the Bhabanipur by-poll, is an Indian lawyer and
politician from the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Priyanka
Tibrewal started her legal career in 2007. During the course of her career, she
has represented individual, corporate, as well as state clients before various
courts of law, including the Supreme Court of India and Calcutta High Court.

As
far as her political journey goes, Tibrewal joined the BJP in August 2014.
Prior to that, she served as a legal counsel for BJP leader in West Bengal,
Babul Supriyo. It is said that Tibrewal forayed into politics with the help of
Supriyo.

Tibrewal
contested her first elections in Kolkata’s municipal elections, from ward 58 in
2015. However, she lost to a TMC candidate. She was instrumental in taking
several cases of post-poll
violence
to Kolkata High Court.

In
August 2020, Tibrewal was appointed as the vice president of Bharatiya Janata
Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in West Bengal.

In
the West Bengal Assembly elections 2021, Tibrewal represented the BJP from
Entally but lost to TMC with a margin of 58,257 votes.

Currently,
Priyanka Tibrewal also serves as the national spokesperson of the Bharatiya
Janata Party.

On being asked about the party’s decision to pick her from
Babanipur, Tibrewal told News18, “The party has consulted me and asked my
opinion on whether I would like to contest from Bhabanipur or not. There are
many names and I am not yet aware of who will be the candidate. I would like to
thank my senior party leaders for supporting me all.”

‘If my party fields me from Bhabanipur against Mamata Banerjee, I will give my best and I am hopeful that people will support me in this battle of justice vs injustice… I am sure people will vote against the misrule of ruling TMC. This is our fight against Bengal poll-violence,” she added.
