Varun Chakravarthy is an Indian international cricket player, who is popular for being a mystery spinner. He represents Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket and has been part of the Kolkata Knight Riders since 2020.
Varun Chakravarthy Vinod was born in Bidar, Karnataka, on August 29, 1991. At the age of 25, to pursue his cricket career, Varun dropped his job as an architect. He is a right-handed batsman and a leg-spin bowler. The 30-year-old player made his international debut for the Indian cricket team in 2021.
In September 2018, Chakravarthy made his List A debut for Tamil in the 2018-19 Vijay Hazare Trophy against Gujarat. With 22 wickets in 9 matches, he was the state’s top wicketkeeper. In the same year, he made his first-class debut, representing Tamil Nadu, in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy against Hyderabad.

Chakravarthy was purchased by the Kings XI Punjab in the 2018 IPL auction ahead of the 2019 IPL season for Rs. 8.4 crore. In March 2019, he made his twenty20 debut. He became the first bowler to score 25 runs in his IPL debut. He was picked up by the Kolkata Knight Riders for the IPL 2020 season.
Varun took his first five-wicket haul in the IPL in October 2020 against the Delhi Capitals. He is the highest wicket-taker for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2021 IPL tournament.

Following his outstanding performance in the 2020 IPL season, Chakravarthy was named to India’s limited-overs team for their series against Australia. However, he couldn’t play the match due to an injury. Later, in February 2021, he became part of India’s T20I squad for their series against England. The same year, he was selected for India’s squad for the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. He was purchased by the Kolkata Knight Riders for the IPL 2022 tournament.
