The Traders’ union Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has called for a Bharat bandh on Friday, where transporters and traders will stage sit-in at 1,500 places across the country. The traders will protest against the GST, as they have claimed the provisions under the tax are %u201Ccomplicated%u201D, %u201Cregressive%u201D and %u201Cdraconian.%u201D

The bandh is being backed by the All India Transporters Welfare Association (AITWA), and the organisation will hold a ‘chakka jam’. The AITWA will protest against the fuel price hike and scrapping of new E-way bill laws introduced by the Centre.

In addition to that, private transport is likely to be affected as the transporters’ association (AITWA) have asked transport corporations to park their vehicles between 6 am and 8 pm to present a united front. Meanhile, the banking sector is unlikely to be affected on Friday.

On Bharat bandh on Friday, all commercial markets in India will be closed as over 40,000 traders’ associations are taking part in the bandh, said CAIT chief.
