West Indies kept their semi-finals hopes alive in the ICC men’s T20 World Cup by beating Bangladesh in a Super 12 stage Group 1 match at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on October 29. As for Bangladesh, they could not manage to register even a win out of the three matches they played.

Winning the toss, Bangladesh invited the West Indies to bat in a must-win game. Nicholas Pooran starred with the bat, scoring 40 off 22 balls, as West Indies posted 142/7 in 20 overs. During his stay in the middle, the wicketkeeper-batter hit four boundaries and one sixes.

Other than him, Roston Chase, who made his T20I debut, scored a handy 39 for his team.

In reply, Bangladesh could manage 139/5 in 20 overs as all West indies bowlers picked one wicket each.

For the West Indies, if they want to make it to the semis, they will have to win their remaining matches and other results should go in their favour.

In the 143 run-chase, Bangladesh lost openers Mohammad Naim (17) and Shakib Al Hasan (9) cheaply, in the first six over.

They motored ahead thanks to Liton Das, who scored 44 off 43 balls. For West Indies, it was a dismal effort in the field as Bangladesh kept scoring runs.

Dropped catches and missed run-outs chances were the highlights for the Pollard-led team.

With 50 need off the last six overs with six wickets in hand, skipper Mahmudullah (31 not out) and Das looked to be in control, converting ones into twos while also hitting boundaries regularly.

Dwayne Bravo (1/36) produced a conducive 17th over, giving away just three runs. In the first ball of the penultimate over, he was hit for a six by Mahmudullah but the veteran all-rounder proved his mettle by getting rid of danger-man Das in his final ball.

Needing 13 off the last over, Mahmudullah failed to clear the boundary even once despite being dropped by substitute Andre Fletcher in the fourth ball to bring down the equation to four off the last ball.

Pooran was adjudged man of the match for his effort with the bat.
