A cat found itself in an unwanted position –
dangling off one of its paws from the façade of the upper decks of the Hard
Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida – during the Miami Hurricanes’ NCAA
college football game on Saturday. However, fans at the venue were quick to
react, using an American flag as a makeshift net to catch the feline as it fell
to the lower levels.

Watch the incident here:

“They were trying to grab it from above and
they couldn’t reach it but they were scaring it downward,” The Associated Press
quoted Craig Cromer, a facilities manager at the University of Miami and Hurricanes
season-ticket holder said.

“It hung there for a little while with its
two front paws, then one paw, then I was like, ‘Oh my goodness, it’s coming
soon’,” Cromer, who with his wife brings an American flag to each game, added.

As they saw the cat was about to fall, Cromer
and his wife quickly unhooked the flag from the ties used to keep it hooked to
the railing and held it beneath the animal. The cat fell and bounced on the flag
for a bit before the crowd from the nearby student section eventually secured it.
The cat was finally taken away by the stadium’s security workers.

Miami coach Manny Diaz said he came to know
of the incident after the game. “I don’t know anything about that or what was
going on. But I’ll tell you, if the cat will help us in our red-zone offense
I’m going to see if we can give it a scholarship,” he said.

There were no signs of injuries on the cat.
“Strangest thing that’s ever happened at a game,” Kimberley Cromer said.

Miami defeated Appalachian State Mountaineers
25-23 in the game. They
will next be in action on September 18, when they take on Miami State.
