In Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, a 40-year-old man walked out alive even after being declared dead by doctors. The presumed dead person was kept in the mortuary freezer for over seven hours. This strange incident shocked the medical staff but left the family members in joy.
Sreekesh Kumar, 40, was taken to the hospital after being hit by a motorbike. The doctors on duty announced that he had died. So, the body was kept in the mortuary freezer before a routine post-mortem would be carried out the next day.
After seven hours, when one of the documents that were signed by the family agreeing to an autopsy was about to be filed by the police, the presumed dead person’s sister-in-law noticed some signs of movement.
In a video that is being widely shared on social media, Madhu Bala can ve heard exclaiming, “He’s not at all dead, in fact far from it. How did this happen? Look, he wants to say something, he is breathing,” Hindustan Times quoted.
This also left other family members in shock.
Moradabad’s chief medical superintendent, Dr Shiv Singh, said, “The emergency medical officer had seen the patient at around 3am and there was no heartbeat. He told me he had examined the man multiple times. Therefore he was declared dead. In the morning, a police team and his family found him alive. A probe has been ordered and our priority, at the moment, is to save his life.”
Dr Shiv said it was one of those “rarest of rare cases”. Explaining what may have transpired, Dr Shiv said: “Sometimes there are difficulties faced while declaring someone dead. For example, there is ‘suspended animation’ where there is temporary cessation of many vital organs without death. It can lead to extraordinary situations. We can’t call it negligence (on the part of doctors) until we have all the reports in our hand.”
Madhu Bala said that they will lodge a complaint against them for negligence.
