What is your idea of a romantic date? Dinner, candles, flowers, chocolates, a walk by moonlight? But for Chennai‘s Sunder Ramu, a date is the way to bring about a social change. Yes! Social change. However, there are a few conditions to it- the woman should make the first move and invite him for the date, offer him a meal and most importantly, she should pay for it. By the way, Parbhu doesn’t mind home-cooked meals and for that matter your age too. You can be 19 or 109, Prabhu is more than willing to spend a beautiful evening with you.

If you are all rattled by now, don’t worry. Let’s start over.

It all started in 2015, when Ramu was juggling between work as a Tamilian actor and a celebrity photographer, he decided to take up another endeavour. Prabhu decided to go on 365 dates, which means a date every day, he told Indian Express.

“I want to date 365 women,” a proud Ramu said. Though the idea of these dates is quite different from our usual date.

“While I am always looking for in my life, my motive behind these dates is to address the societal issues in the country and create awareness about women’s rights through a deep conversation,” he revealed to Indian Express.

Sundar Prabhu’s motivation behind the 365 dates

Ramu comes from a highly progressive and gender-neutral family. He never came across instances of gender discrimination at his home. But it all changed when he moved to Chennai for higher studies and saw the condition of women in the real world, especially in India.

Ramu shared with Indian Express that what really impacted him was the 2012 Nirbhaya Gangrape case

“It completely shook me and I thought if humans are willing to do it with other humans, what about climate change and animal issues,” Ramu said.

He added that whenever he went abroad he got stares and people always labelled India as a country that ill-treat women and where rapes are at surge.

“I wanted to be the change and that’s when I thought of an initiative,” he said.

The 365 dates concept

So, Sundar thought of going to 365 dates and talk to them about women’s issues and rights.

The rules of the date are that in the first date, Sundar will not reveal that he is there for a cause, the woman will have to pay because he wants to break the stereotype that on a date, a man has an upper hand.

Age, social status, profession, and caste are no bar for Sundar Ramu. “Anybody can date me. No one needs to ask me if they are eligible,” he says.

So till now, Sundar has gone for 335 dates and his girls include actress Shriya Saran, dancer Rukmani Vijayakumar and Chief Minister MK Stalin’s wife Durga Stalin to a 109-year-old grandmother and a 90-year-old nun, reported Indian Express.
