Ever since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, people have seen politicians making bizarre statements. Adding to the list, former Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Thursday stated that coronavirus has a right to live as it was a living organism.

According to PTI, he told a local news channel that if one looks at it from a philosophical angle, the virus is also a living organism. “It has the right to live like the rest of us. But we (humans) think ourselves to be the most intelligent and are out to eliminate it. So it is constantly mutating itself.”

However, he added that human race needs to outpace the virus to stay safe.

Soon after his statement, the BJP leader was was trolled on social media. His statement comes at a time when the country is battling deadliest second wave of coronavirus. There is shortage of oxygen and medical equipment in the country.
