The splendour of the universe comes to life in the new batch of images, released Tuesday. They were taken by the powerful James Webb telescope whose first image was a shot of distant galaxies, deeper into the cosmos than humans have ever seen.
While the new telescope also shows parts of the universe seen by other such devices, the infrared light spectrum allows scientists to view them in a different light.
“It’s the beauty but also the story”, NASA senior Webb scientist John Mather said, adding, “It’s the story of where did we come from.”
NASA Administrator Bill Nelson also chipped in, saying, “Every image is a new discovery and each will give humanity a view of the humanity that we’ve never seen before”.
