The MLB trade deadline is approaching.

During the trade deadline, both Chicago baseball teams generated a lot of buzz. The Cubs, who have won 11 of their previous 15 games, were significant purchases and the White Sox notable sellers.

White Sox moves

To the Los Angeles Angels, the White Sox sent Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez in exchange for the Nos. 2 and 3 prospects, Ed Quero and Ky Bush, respectively. Quero, a switch-hitter at catcher, and Bush, a left-handed reliever at 6-foot-6, will both join the White Sox organisation and join the Double-A team.

The White Sox dealt Joe Kelly and Lance Lynn to the Los Angeles Dodgers after the iceberg’s tip. Outfielder Trayce Thompson, who the White Sox originally selected in 2009, as well as Double-A prospects Nick Nastrini and Jordan Leasure were given to them in exchange.

The White Sox sent minor-league catcher Korey Lee to the Houston Astros for Kendall Graveman, which was the most recent deal to date.

The Cubs

Before the deadline, The Cubs made a splash in the market as buyers. The Cubs changed course and made significant team improvements against expectations that they would turn into sellers.

They traded shortstop Kevin Made and left-handed pitcher DJ Herz to the Washington Nationals in exchange for third baseman Jeimer Candelario.

On the same day, they traded outfielder Nelson Velázquez for right-handed reliever Jose Cuas from the Kansas City Royals. Cuas has pitched 45 games for the Royals this season with a 4.54 ERA.

White Sox Rumors

Before the deadline expires, Keynan Middleton, who joined the Sox in January and has excelled as a reliever, should be a simple item to move. The potential departure of Middleton was mentioned by Bob Nightengale.

A trade for Tim Anderson and the prospect of selling catcher Yasmani Grandal prior to the deadline were also mentioned by Nightengale.

They would consider offers for shortstop Tim Anderson and would part with catcher Yasmani Grandal, according to a Monday night letter from Nightengale.

The Cubs Rumors

Long-term, the Cubs’ biggest concerns are Cody Bellinger and Marcus Stroman’s futures. According to Nightengale, the Cubs were determined to trade both players before going on an 11-3 winning streak over their past 14 games.

They now need to figure out how to re-sign both of them. They will appear dumb if they lose either without receiving compensation. Particularly if they fail to make a postseason splash or, for what it’s worth, fail to make the postseason. They have five teams in front of them and are five games out of the division and 3.5 games out of the NL Wild Card.

For what it’s worth, the Cubs sent minor league pitcher Josh Roberson to the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday in exchange for Adrian Sampson and Manny Rodriguez. In this league, there is never enough pitching.

And for that reason, a left-handed reliever would be the icing on top of a seemingly profitable shopping binge. On top of that, Jon Heyman of the NY Post reported that the Cubs are interested in signing Andrew Chafin. In 2021, Chafin was a Cub. This year, he is a reliever for the Diamondbacks with a 4.19 ERA.
