Juventus confirmed Paul Pogba’s return to the club after six stop-start years at Manchester United. As per sources, the 29-year-old rejoins the Turin-based club as a free agent on a four-year deal worth €8m (£6.8m) per season plus a potential €2m (£1.7m) in performance-related bonuses. His previous stint at the club was wildly successful, marked by four consecutive Scudettos, two Coppa Italias and a Champions League final appearance. The Frenchman was the midfield dynamo in a dominant Bianconeri team, as they swept aside all comers.

The Italian giants released a statement on their official website, welcoming their former star on a rather poetic note:

“When we say goodbye after an intense adventure shared together, there is always a glimmer of hope that we will see each other again, sooner or later…Then we said goodbye, and in the meantime his talent and power came to the fore when as an integral part of his national side he contributed to France’s World Cup 2018 triumph.”

The maverick star felt a lack of love at Old Trafford, often singled out by fans and pundits alike for the club’s misfortunes. But back on his old stomping ground, the affection is palpable:

“Although we parted ways, we never really forgot about each other, and there is something ancestral in the call that after a thousand adventures eventually leads you back home.”

His arrival completes an arc for both player and club, with hopes of further success written into the move:

“Paul is back in Turin. He left as a boy and returns as a man and a champion, but there is one thing that has not changed – the desire to write unforgettable pages of club history together once more.

Pogba is back and we couldn’t be happier.”

The excitement is shared by Pogba as well, with the player looking to make up for a lost time:

“I am back, I am here and I can’t wait to get started. I am very, very happy. I can’t wait to get started and wear this Juventus jersey again,” announced Pogba on Juve’s Twitter account.

The midfielder enjoyed his best years at the club, scoring 34 goals in 177 appearances. A devastating creative force, he also posted a season-best 12 assists in his final season with the club.
