With one of the most consistent and balanced squads, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has established itself as one of the most successful sides in the Indian Premier League in recent years.

Owned by the Sun TV Network, the Hyderabad-based side has qualified for five playoffs in their seven seasons so far since the rebranding from Deccan Chargers, with Australian opener David Warner leading them to their solitary title win in 2016.

The consistency is also reflected in individual performances, with SRH players being ever-present among the contenders for the purple and orange caps, given to the highest wicket takers and run scorers respectively.

Between them, Warner and Kane Williamson, two of the most experienced and destructive overseas batsmen in the tournament, have finished as the top run scorer in four of the previous five campaigns. And yet, on most times SRH is unable to field both of them together. That speaks volumes of the lineup that they boast of.

They are well complimented by a strong middle order, with batsmen like the hard-hitting Jonny Bairstow, Manish Pandey, Wriddhiman Saha and all-rounders Mohammad Nabi and Vijay Shankar.

SRH have a predominantly Indian pace attack with the likes of Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Sandeep Sharma, Siddharth Kaul, Khaleel Ahmed and Basil Thampi. They also boast top talents like Rashid Khan and Shahbaz Nadeem in the spin department.

Having retained most of their stars, SRH had a relatively quiet player auction last December, spending Rs 6.9 crore on seven players to add depth to their squad. Among the acquisitions were Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, Indian batsmen Virat Singh and Priyam Garg and West Indies spinner Fabien Allen.

The biggest change in their roster came in the coaching department, with Australian head coach Tom Moody being replaced by compatriot Trevor Bayliss.

Bayliss led England to their maiden ODI World Cup triumph last summer. He has won two IPL titles with the Kolkata Knight Riders and has also won the Big Bash League and the Champions League with the Sydney Sixers.

He will be backed by former Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Brad Haddin as his assistant, former Indian great VVS Laxman as the batting coach and Sri Lankan spin legend Muttiah Muralitharan as the bowling coach.

The 13th edition of the IPL will be played in the UAE from September 19 to November 10. Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi will host the matches in bio-secure bubbles.
