Cristiano Ronaldo has not had a memorable FIFA World Cup 2022 quarterfinal campaign. Portugal were eliminated by underdogs Morocco, who became the first African nation in World Cup history to qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament.

This defeat means that Ronaldo will likely end his football career without getting his hand on the game’s ultimate prize. His eternal rival, Lionel Messi, has managed to progress to the next round after Argentina defeated the Netherlands in dramatic style.
CR7 had stepped into the FIFA World Cup after his controversial interview with Piers Morgan, in which he lashed out against Manchester United’s executives and management. United soon terminated his contract as a result of his comments against the club.
Now Morocco have the challenge of facing either France or England in the second semi-final of the FIFA World Cup. They proved to be the better side this time with their grit and determination as they kept the Europeans at bay despite being down to 10 men.

Ronaldo is yet to figure out where he will continue his career after the World Cup. Now that Portugal are out, he will have some time before club football commences to decide how he wants to script the last chapter of his glittering career.
