Cristiano Ronaldo has not had a memorable FIFA World Cup 2022 quarterfinal campaign. Portugal were eliminated by underdogs Morocco, who became the first African nation in World Cup history to qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament.

Ronaldo was in tears as he headed back into the tunnel:

Social media reaction has not been kind to the Portuguese goal machine, who is at last feeling age catching up to him. This defeat means that Ronaldo will likely end his football career without getting his hand on the game’s ultimate prize. His eternal rival, Lionel Messi, has managed to progress to the next round after Argentina defeated the Netherlands in dramatic style.
