France under manager Didier Deschamps is a formidable force in world football. They won the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and just when everyone wrote them off from the Qatar edition after a shocking group stage exit in the 2020 Euro Cup, they managed to reach the final of the tournament for the second time in a row.

Key players from the 2018 World Cup-winning French squad, like N’golo Kante and Paul Pogba, missed out on the trip to Qatar due to injuries. The 2022 Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema, who finally got a chance to represent France in Qatar, was also ruled out last minute due to a leg injury.

In spite of the setbacks just before the tournament, the French turned out in top form and managed to reach the 2022 FIFA World Cup final defeating teams like Morocco, England and Poland

As they look to win the title for the second time in a row, we take a look at the other teams who have done it in the past.

Which teams have won consecutive FIFA World Cups?

Many teams in the past have managed to reach back-to-back FIFA World Cup finals in the past but only two have managed to lift it.

1. Italy in 1934 and 1938

Even though the Azzuri have failed to reach the finals of the 2022 and 2018 FIFA World Cups, there is no doubt that they are among the best European teams to ever play in the tournament. They have played 18 out of the 22 World Cups and reached the finals in six of them. Out of six finals, they have played, they have emerged winners in four of them, the last of them was in 2006.

2. Brazil in 1958 and 1962

With legend Pele leading Brazil’s attack in the late fifties and the early sixties, they were an unstoppable force in the FIFA World Cup then. Although they come up as favorites in every edition of the FIFA World Cup having won it six times in the past – the most by any nation, they have not won it since 2002. This year, they crashed out in the quarter-final after losing to Croatia in penalty shootouts.
