Free agent Lonnie Walker IV has agreed to a one-year contract with the Brooklyn Nets, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul and agent Lucas Newton told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Walker, a 24-year-old shooting guard, signed a one-year, $6.5 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers in the offseason, taking a chance on his potential. Through the first 32 games of the season, he established himself as a mainstay in Los Angeles’ rotation, averaging roughly 15 points and shooting 38.4% from beyond the arc.

However, a knee injury in late December kept him out for a month, and a roster shuffle before the trade deadline in February reduced his playing time.

Walker made a comeback in the postseason. His best performance came in Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals against the Golden State Warriors when he poured in 15 points in the last frame to give the Lakers a decisive 3-1 series lead.

Walker spent the first four years of his professional career with the San Antonio Spurs after being selected by the team with the 18th overall choice in the 2018 NBA Draft.

In 264 regular season games, the 24-year-old has averaged 9.9 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists while shooting 42.2% from the field and 34.9% from the three-point range.

Additionally, he participated in 19 NBA Playoff contests and assisted the Lakers in their run to the 2023 Western Conference Finals.

The Nets are currently in a curious spot as a team because they went into the 2022–2023 season as favorites because to the presence of All-Stars Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.

Despite losing both of their superstars in the course of the season, they were still able to earn a spot in the NBA Playoffs as the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference (they were swept by the Philadelphia 76ers in the opening round).

Walker might get the chance to contribute significantly to the team in the upcoming season.
